From an unsafe, scrawny, marshy and forsaken grove, old Agodi Botanical Garden has come astir and a now much sought-after territory for amusement-seekers in the very vast city of Ibadan.
The re-birthed Agodi Resort and Conferences is an aesthetic masterpiece of well-landscaped aura with an unselfish measure of conserved nature that recently flung its gates open to the public in December 2015.
Incredibly, the eye-catching tropical trees in the garden have been preserved to provide shade for visitors and home for the birds. Plaques dishing at-a-glance information about the various species are beautifully erected next to these trees.
The almond trees with their fragrance travelling 100 meters, intensely reveals the elegance and grandeur of nature. Tourists are made to know that the fruits of the fig tree attracts thousands of bats from across the continent and the lilac tree was used in 1958 to preserve Ibadan rivers and streams.
Up North of the entrance houses the swimming pool with spiraling water slides. Its seclusion is marked by high wire fence and a gate. Officials at the pools prohibit children from swimming in it without the possession of swimming jacket and non-swimmers are not granted entree. Life guards watch swimmers in pools in case help is needed for rescue.
The zoo, can boast of two lions in the largest cage. Two little crocodiles can be seen in a shallow pond while at the middle of the zoo, there are cages where monkeys are kept. In addition to these developments are other modern features including, play areas for kids with mounts, inflated balloons and toys, walkways, bar and eatery. There are also toilets, each of which is equipped with modern accessories suitable for all ages.
In spite of the fact that the Agodi Gardens has been in existence for many decades, it has never attracted so many tourists as it does now. The beauty of the park is not limited to the day. At night, the garden is illuminated by fairy lights, which will soon give way to neon lights.
Since its launch in December, the recreation arena has attracted thousands of families and friends, groups and individuals, young and old. It sure has been thrilling to have the gardens rejuvenated and in a better form.
