There is Fire on the
Mountain Rock, run! run!! run!!!
During the raining season, Zuma rock catches fire. This happens when it is raining. I suppose rain is like fuel but I wonder what ignites the fire.
“Nollywood’s” Evill Forest Location
Zuma rock is believed to be the home for the dead. Mythically, when people die, their spirits go to the top of the rock to “chill”. “At the end of time”, judgement will likely take place on Zuma rock! #lol
Home of Masquerades
Due to reason number 2, our forefathers believed that masquerades come from the rock. Afterall, masquerades are the spirit of the dead. Personally, masquerades are human beings in cool yet scary costumes. I might be wrong as a result of my doubt in this myth.
The Knob of A Water Tap
Apparently, our forefathers believe Zuma rock is covering a large body of water. If the rock is lifted to expose the body of water, a large expanse of land will be submerged by water. The question is “Who will lift the rock na?”.
Home to Heavyweight Spirits
The spirits around the rock are the strongest spirits around. I guess that explains their ability to pin down the rock, so that the body of water isn’t exposed.
The Earth’s Source of Life
Legend has it that Zuma rock is the umbilical cord of the earth. The rock is the source of life for the earth and is reason for the earth’s flourish. I hear well! Go and plant yam in the rock na!
In those days when a clear and audible strange sound of door opening and closing is heard around the rock, it implies doom. Sooner or later, the news of the death of an important personality will be heard. What a way to exit the world and go live on the rock?
Centre for Civilisation???
Our forefathers believed that before the end of time, Zuma rock shall be at the centre of a very large and densely populated settlement. Of Course, It is close to the nation’s capital. It is a major mark on the 100 Naira note.
Away from these fun myths and legends, Zuma rock still remains one of Nigeria’s most iconic rocks. It is cool for tourism and sightseeing.
