Throughout the world there are rollers and there are folders… I have rooted for rolling in a few recent posts but what I have not told you is how to fold the clothes into your suitcase without them wrinkling..
So let’s say you want to pack a suitcase but you do not want to wrinkle your garments; today, with a few graphical representations, we are going to figure out an alternative technique.
Now traditionally, the method has always been to “fold it as neatly as possibly as you can and then place it in your suitcase”. But then look at the over-flowing mess we have here!
Think about all the creases and rumples you must have created by folding those shirts or dresses… especially when you have to place more items on top it. My best suggestion is to roll up!
Depending on the type of suitcase you have, and the type of clothing, rolling is best for very casual clothing. Chiffon dresses, denims, synthetic fabrics; they don’t wrinkle very much at all, and so rolling is a good thing to do for those, plus it helps you get those clothings into the little nooks and crannies of your suitcase, your duffel bag or your backpack.
To roll a T-shirt, place it face-down on the bed, fold the sleeves and then simply roll tightly from the hem up to the neckline, ensuring to smoothen as you roll.
To roll a trouser, you also place on the bed but this time, the trouser is folded in half length. You roll the trouser from the waist, down to the hem (and again, smoothen as you go), rolling tightly.
If you have a skirt (yass.. I’m a skirt-girl) and you want to roll that, well… first you would want to fold it in two-thirds. Then it too is best to roll (tightly) from the waist to the hem, smoothening as you go 🙂 .
If you have a piece of clothing that might wrinkle (like that corporate blouse) but you still want to roll; I strongly recommend that you put it in a plastic dry-cleaner’s bag first… this will help cushion the wrinkles. Then you’ll fold the bottom-sides and roll it up, plastic-bag and all.
Not only will this technique likely keep your clothes wrinkle-free or as wrinkle-free as possible, but you will also be able to fit more in your suitcase.
You’re welcome 🙂 .
Have a nice trip.
