Higher National Diploma known as HND is a part of the Higher Nationals group of qualifications, a higher academic education qualification in the United Kingdom and some other countries. This group of qualifications was first introduced in 1920 to England and Wales together with the Ordinary National Diploma (OND) and the Higher National Certificate (HNC). HND in Nigeria is an extension of the Ordinary National Diploma (OND) program offered by polytechnics. Both ND and HND programs have a duration of two years with a year break after the OND program for a year Industrial Training (IT).
